When most people think of Arizona, their minds immediately go to the greater Phoenix area. But anyone who has spent some time in the Copper State knows there is a lot more amazing things. There are a plethora of small towns spread throughout state that are perfect for a weekend getaway. Whether you’re looking to stay a bit closer to home or you want to get away from it all there is a place for everyone. Come check out our favorite small towns in this great state.

1) Carefree
Carefree is located north of Phoenix in the far northeast area of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. When you visit there is plenty of things you can choose to do. Whether you’re into riding ATVs while you check out the stunning scenery or you want to spend sometime in the downtown shops. Whatever you decide, be sure to head over to Confluence when you’re ready for some food. As you plan your trip to Carefree, check out their events calendar to see what’s coming up while you’re there.
2) Bisbee
Located in Cochise County, Bisbee is 92 miles southeast of Tucson, nearly at the Mexican border. The town was founded as a mining town, though these days you can check out “Old Bisbee,” the downtown cultural scene. Check out the Victorian-style houses and the Art Deco county courthouse. Stop in for a ghost tour or to visit the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum. When you get hungry, you’ll want to stop in at Dot’s Diner. The events calendar will also help you to plan your trip.

3) Patagonia
Originally a trading and supply center for nearby mines and ranches, these days Patagonia is a tourist destination. Spend the day exploring and relaxing at Patagonia Lake State Park. Or head to The Patagonia Museum for a day of learning and adventure. There is definitely something for everyone when you visit this small town. Before you go, you’ll want to check out the local calendar for any upcoming events. While there, be sure to stop in at Nickel’s Diner for dinner.
4) Tombstone
When it comes to Tombstone, it can be a bit of a no brainer that it would be on the list. With it being on the National Historic Landmark registry, you know there is a lot of things to do and see when you visit. Go on a tour of the old underground mines or visit one of the many museums. But you’ll definitely want to stay a night or two because there is way too much to do in just one day. If you have the time, be sure to stop in at The Longhorn Restaurant for some delicious food.
